A businessman sits in the plaza of the Midwest Federal building, probably reading the Star or Tribune. In 1970, the papers had a circulation of half a million readers, and their influence on the cultural dialogue was enormous. Everything we find in the details of these photographs—new architecture, construction projects, movies, concerts and shows, social issues, cultural events—registered some sort of official comment in the pages of the city’s morning and evening newspapers.
