Artist's Description

Many of Mike’s photos capture pedestrians lost in thought or sometimes glancing idly at him to register their awareness of his presence. Some of the best images, however, portray small, everyday interactions, taken without the subjects’ awareness. This conversation between a woman and a cabby could be any number of things: a negotiation, a routine discussion between two downtown acquaintances, a threat, a plea, an exchange of pleasantries. Note, too, the looming skyway, which would absorb quite a bit of the city’s pedestrian traffic in the decades ahead.
